Мне нужно было иметь возможность сортировать по нескольким вещам, а не по одному. Этот ответ основан на некоторых других ответах, но допускает более сложную сортировку.

        var sorted = (sort.Invoke(collection) as IOrderedEnumerable<T>).ToArray();
        for (int i = 0; i < sorted.Count(); i++)
            collection.Move(collection.IndexOf(sorted[i]), i);
    }
}

Когда вы используете его, передайте серию вызовов OrderBy / ThenBy. Как это:

Children.Sort(col => col.OrderByDescending(xx => xx.ItemType == "drive")
                    .ThenByDescending(xx => xx.ItemType == "folder")
