У меня также была эта проблема, и text-shadow не был вариантом, потому что углы выглядели бы плохо (если бы у меня не было много много теней), и я не хотел никакого размытия, поэтому мой единственный другой вариант был сделать следующее: иметь 2 элемента div, а в качестве фонового элемента div положить -webkit-text-stroke, что позволяет создать настолько большой контур, насколько вам нужно.
