Gradle разница между тестом и проверкой

My build.gradle выглядит следующим образом: 

group 'groupName'
version 'version'

apply plugin: 'java'
apply plugin: 'idea'

sourceCompatibility = 1.8

repositories {
    . . .
}

dependencies {
    . . .
    testCompile group: 'junit', name: 'junit', version: '4.12'
}

В классе при выполнении ./gradlew tasks я получаю

test - Runs the unit tests.

В чем разница между этими двумя задачами? Выход ./gradlew check идентичен ./gradlew test.

Из того, что я понимаю, ./gradle test ⊆ ./gradle check. Это правильно?

Задача Gradle check зависит от задачи test, что означает, что тест выполняется перед выполнением проверки. Документация гласит, что проверка выполняет все задачи проверки в проекте, включая тестовые, а также плагины задач, добавляемые в проект:

Если вы, например, добавили плагин checkstyle в свой проект, вы можете запустить его задачи checkstyleMain и checkstyleTest по отдельности или выполнить полную проверку проекта с помощью check. В этом случае будут выполняться задачи test, checkstyleMain и checkstyleTest.
Принимая во внимание, что test всегда просто выполняет ваши модульные тесты.
