Как выделить строку и столбец таблицы при наведении на нее курсора?

Однако, когда я пытаюсь изменить цвет фона таблицы, зависание и выделение перестают работать,

Предполагая, что это то, что вы ищете. Вы установили z-index: -1, чтобы скрыть подсветку фона, когда table имеет цвет фона, так как он имеет более высокое значение z-index, чем отрицательные значения. Но они тебе совсем не нужны. Вы должны использовать цвет RGBA - который определяет непрозрачность для цвета, чтобы сделать подсветку. Надеюсь, это помогло!
