проект реализации ': app' в 'libModule' не работает

Мне нужно создать модуль в Android Studio, который будет содержать зависимость от основного проекта.Я создаю новый проект и модуль, добавляю реализацию в библиотеку gradle следующим образом: 

implementation project(':app')

, но когда я пытаюсь синхронизировать gradle, я получаю следующие ошибки: 

Unable to resolve dependency for ':mylibrary@debug/compileClasspath': Could not resolve project :app.

Unable to resolve dependency for ':mylibrary@debugAndroidTest/compileClasspath': Could not resolve project :app.

Unable to resolve dependency for ':mylibrary@debugUnitTest/compileClasspath': Could not resolve project :app.

Unable to resolve dependency for ':mylibrary@release/compileClasspath': Could not resolve project :app.

Unable to resolve dependency for ':mylibrary@releaseUnitTest/compileClasspath': Could not resolve project :app.

Любые идеи, почему этослучается и как это исправить?
