whois / server / adapters / verisign - это файл на gem, попробуйте переустановить гем

gem uninstall whois
gem install whois

Еще одно решение - загрузить исходный камень и обновить файл gem

cd /your/path/
git clone git@github.com:weppos/whois.git

На вашем Gemfile

gem 'whois', path: '/your/path/whois'

Чтобы установить гем из источника

cd /your/path/whois
gem build whois.gemspec
gem install whois-x.y.z.gem
