показать и скрыть столбцы в таблице, установив флажок с помощью Angularjs

Question

У меня есть таблица с большим количеством столбцов, мне нужно иметь возможность отображать и скрывать некоторые столбцы, установив флажок.Я пробовал много вариантов ng-click - ng-show, $ scope $ watch, и теперь я пытаюсь сделать это с помощью addEventListener, но это не работает, ничего не произошло.

 $scope.showTheItem = false;

    function newFunction() {
        document.getElementById("showTheItemEvent").addEventListener('checked', function () {
            $scope.showTheItem = true;
            $scope.digest();
        });
    }
