«Невозможно прочитать сертификат x509» при выполнении вызовов HTTPS в API подписки PayPal

Я внедряю подписки PayPal API в мой проект, однако получаю следующую ошибку скручивания:

При поиске решения в Интернете я сталкивался с различными вопросами о StackOverflow, наиболее многообещающим из которых был this . Сначала я попробовал решение с наибольшим количеством голосов, но оно не сработало для меня, хотя и странно. Я последовал за ним и зашел в свой /etc/php/7.2/apache2/php.ini и оставил комментарий curl.cainfo, заполнил его абсолютным путем к загруженному сертификату и перезапустил apache, и это не помогло. Затем я создал информационный файл php и посмотрел опции, и там я не смог найти curl.cainfo, хотя загруженный файл конфигурации был именно тем, который я отредактировал - согласно this curl.cainfo не будет отображаться в phpinfo, начиная с PHP7 .2, что решает эту проблему.

Из того же вопроса StackOverflow я также попытался: 

sudo apt-get install ca-certificates

и: 

sudo update-ca-certificates

но это не помогло.

Любая помощь очень ценится.

РЕДАКТИРОВАТЬ 1: Только что заметил в документации PayPal здесь curl вызывается с опцией -k, который допускает даже небезопасные соединения. Интересно, почему PayPal использует самозаверяющие сертификаты в своих API песочницы?

Проблема заключалась в использовании неправильного заголовка авторизации, например, так: 

Authorization: Basic <client-id>:<secret>

, хотя это и есть в документации, очевидно, это не работает, вместо этого используйте это: 

Authorization: Bearer <access-token>

Вы можете загрузить обновленный пакет Центров сертификации из https://curl.haxx.se/docs/caextract.html

Среди других возможных мест конфигурации этот файл .pem можно передать, добавив его в параметры curl: 

curl_setopt($connection, CURLOPT_CAINFO, '/path/to/cacert.pem');

Или, поскольку у вас есть массив параметров: 

CURLOPT_CAINFO => '/path/to/cacert.pem',

PayPal не использует самозаверяющие сертификаты в изолированной программной среде, но поскольку некоторые среды не настроены с надлежащей центры сертификации, curl -k (небезопасный / без проверки однорангового узла) используется в примерах командной строки, поскольку нет необходимости проверять одноранговые сертификаты во время разработки.
