Проверка подлинности SSL работает с wget, но выдача ошибки проверки SSL не удалась для самозаверяющего сертификата с модулем запросов python.

Однако происходит сбой при попытке выполнить то же самое с помощью модуля запросов. Он игнорирует опцию проверки, которая передается.
