Как читать текстовый файл от начала до определенной точки. C ++

Question

Итак, я работаю над работой для класса, который обсуждает файлы с произвольным доступом. Один из вопросов (вариант 3) просит нас создать код, который принимает текстовый файл, читает и отображает его содержимое от начала до определенной точки (которая будет задана пользователем). Как бы я мог установить код, чтобы остановить чтение после того, как этот пользователь дал ввод? Вот мой код до сих пор

Самым простым способом было бы взять символ или номер строки, с которой они хотят остановить чтение, и сосчитать до этого значения. Что-то вроде

while(inFile.good() && amount_read < amount_to_be_read)
