Как настроить JComboBox, чтобы не выбирать элемент FIRST при создании?

Из API Java SE 6:

public JComboBox () Создает JComboBox с моделью данных по умолчанию. По умолчанию Модель данных представляет собой пустой список объекты. Используйте addItem для добавления элементов. К по умолчанию первый элемент в данных модель становится выбранной.

Итак, я перешел на JComboBox (модель), как говорит API:

общедоступный JComboBox (ComboBoxModel aModel) Создает JComboBox, который принимает его элементы из существующей ComboBoxModel. Поскольку ComboBoxModel предоставляется, поле со списком, созданное с помощью этого Конструктор не создает по умолчанию поле со списком модель и может повлиять на вставлять, удалять и добавлять методы ведут себя.

Я попробовал следующее: 

    DefaultComboBoxModel model = new DefaultComboBoxModel();
    model.setSelectedItem(null);
    suggestionComboBox = new JComboBox(model);

Но не удалось заставить его работать, первый элемент все еще выбирается.

Я использую JComboBox и попытался использовать setSelectionIndex(-1) в своем коде (этот код помещен в caretInvoke())

Это начальная настройка при добавлении на панель:

    suggestionComboBox.setPreferredSize(new Dimension(25, 25));
    suggestionComboBox.addActionListener(new SuggestionComboBoxListener());

Проблема в том, что моя программа автоматически вставляет выделенный текст, когда пользователь выбирает элемент из ComboBox. Таким образом, если пользователь ничего не выбирает, он автоматически вставляется.

Вам необходимо удалить ItemListener, прежде чем вносить какие-либо изменения в комбинированный список, и добавить его обратно, когда вы закончите.

использование 

setSelectedItem(null);

Попробуйте использовать ItemListener вместо ActionListener.

Если вы хотите, чтобы после 1-й записи, которую вы сделали, и сразу же ваш комбокс остался пустым, просто запишите указанный ниже код: 

jComboBox1.setSelectedIndex(0);

и ваш комбокс автоматически сбросится
