Почему iostream включает time.h?

Рассмотрим этот код: 

#include <iostream>

template<class C>
struct time { };

int main() { }

Он производит (GCC 4.5): 

error: ‘template<class C> struct time’ redeclared as different kind of symbol
/usr/include/time.h:186:15: error: previous declaration of ‘time_t time(time_t*)’
  1. Почему iostream включает time_t time(time_t*)?
  2. Почему iostream включает time_t time(time_t*) вне std пространства имен?
  3. (без ответа) Почему, если я удаляю template<class C>, я не получаю эту ошибку?

Если вы запустите g++ -H -Wall -c testim.cc (где testim.cc - ваш пример), вы увидите, что

Так что <time.h> включено для поддержки pthread.

Это с GCC 4.6 на Debian / Sid / AMD64

Очевидно, что GCC iostream нужно что-то в time для чего-то.

time_t - это языковая вещь C, которая не имеет пространств имен, и поэтому для обратной сопоставимости она находится как в пространстве имен std, так и в пространстве имен std.

Что касается того, почему нет ошибок, я не уверен на 100%. Я знаю, что C может иметь функции и структуры с одинаковыми именами, а struct были определены с именем struct, чтобы компилятор мог их различать. Компиляторы C ++ считают, что это функция, если ей не предшествует ключевое слово struct. http://ideone.com/XZB2M v http://ideone.com/kWMKE. Я полагаю, это также допускает обратную сопоставимость?
