Если в ближайшее время переместите логику соединения / message_exchange в Thread / Runnable и запустите ее из Сервиса. Вы можете обмениваться данными между Сервисом и Активностью / Активами с BroadcastReceivers или Messenger. Я также рекомендую вам использовать Bluetooth lib:

у этого уже есть внутренняя нить, поэтому его легко встроить в ваш сервис.
