Обновление страницы таймера Javascript

У меня установлен таймер обратного отсчета от 10 минут. Мне это нужно, чтобы при обновлении страницы пользователь не сбрасывал таймер. Вот мой JavaScript.

Это 2019. Я бы настоятельно рекомендовал использовать localStorage или sessionStorage вместо файлов cookie. 

const start = localStorage.getItem('startTime') || Date.now();
// ...rest of your code...
window.onload = function() {
    localStorage.setItem('startTime', start);
    // ...rest of your code...
};

Возможно, вы захотите поместить бит localStorage.setItem в функцию startTimer после того, как вы установите значениеstart.Зависит от деталей того, что вы хотите.
